Abstract

In present study, we developed micro-extrusion process using metallic non-circular dies, which fabricated by X-ray lithography, for polycapolacton filaments. The cross-sectional shape of extruded filaments was evaluated under various extrusion process conditions, and the process conditions are optimized to produce high-equality filaments. To evaluate the cross-sectional shape of filaments, new measurement factor, namely shape-ability was introduced. In addition, numerical analysis was conducted for the prediction of cross-sectional distortion of extruded filaments. Through the numerical analysis, the surface tension of polymer melt was determined as a dominant factor affecting the cross-sectional shape, so reliability of extrusion process was improved.
