Abstract

3D CAD model and NC program are widely used for mechanical design and manufacturing processes in whole industries now. Seamless CAD data transfer is required between design, NC programming, and NC simulation stages to implement PLM (Product Lifecycle Management). On design stage, every manufacturing factor that can be applied to CAD model should be investigated to achieve PPR (Product, Process and Resource) management and DFM (Design for Manufacturability). The NC programming is a key technology in the manufacturing industry, and the virtual NC manufacturing simulation that can simulate machine and machining lines becomes essential for manufacturing in the information age. The virtual NC manufacturing simulation can detect all collides among the work piece, machine tools and jig & xtures during operation, and can help to know all results before real manufacturing. This paper proposes an integrated process and system from DFM to 'virtual NC manufacturing' by using commercial solutions, and categorize data which are required in design, NC code generation and virtual manufacturing. The mechanical product can be designed in manner of DFM, and virtual NC manufacturing simulation can be done with speci c NC code according to the proposed process.
