Abstract

Recently, UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is used for various fields such as photography and military. In this paper presents the necessity of applying a fault tolerant control method on design with control for UAVs and describe various methods for fault detection & isolation with fault tolerant control. A fault detection & isolation method is classified into two categories. One is the model based method that consists of residual comparison and fault estimator. The other consists of condition monitoring and intelligent method as a machine learning that called the non-model based method. Also, a fault tolerant control method has two groups. The robust control method is classified as the passive control group and the projection, the online controller/redesign/adaptation called the active control group. Redundancy design of sensors and actuators has been adopted for improving reliability through utilizing additional hardware or software. Finally, it is introduced that an example of a fault detection & isolation with fault tolerant control algorithm on a multi-copter.
